Arizona Pride at 100?…Nah, how about Wayne Newton?

I am an Arizona transplant from Wisconsin and my wife from Massachusetts. We both come from states that have a distinguished pride as we both wear them proudly whenever we speak of where we are from.

On Tuesday, February 14th, Arizona will be celebrating it’s 100th birthday as a state. Thank goodness I saw a sign on the freeway, otherwise, I would have had no idea Arizona was experiencing its centennial birthday. Arizona’s birthday could have been a great chance to recognize all of great things about this state and look forward to the next 100 years. Each city could have been involved in a year long event highlighting the many attractions they hold. Arizona could have brought in millions of additional revenue helping our state’s budget and hospitality industry.

INSTEAD, our Governor was busy pissing off the President and passing/vetoing bills and laws that supported (what appears) her personal agenda and beliefs.

There is good news in all of this, as I continue to lay on the sarcasm, Wayne Newton will be performing on February 14th from 2-3pm closing out the ceremony. That’s right, the event will wrap up at 3pm with Wayne Newton. Shame on Governor Brewer. A missed opportunity that comes around once in a 100 years.
